Canadian Caregiving Summit

Earlier this month, I supported the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence at their first Caregiving Summit.

It was great to be able to head to Ottawa with my team and help with such an important summit - gathering with caregiving experts across Canada to work towards some policy changes in this country.

Even better that I got to support by contributing my event coverage skills, capturing photos and video for social media posts.

With four different streams of sessions, it was impossible for the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence’s social media coordinator to be everywhere at once.

That’s where my colleague and I came in.

Getting to sit in on various sessions, even if it was only for a small portion, was so eye-opening.

While I was only there to get some photos and a good sound-byte or two, it was still a great opportunity to learn about the state of caregiving in Canada, the struggles caregivers experience on a regular basis and how they could be supported.

That’s what I love about my job - getting to use my skills as a content creator in a variety of scenarios and picking up information along the way that I never thought I’d be learning about.

During the summit, I also had the opportunity to attend a gala dinner, hosted by Jully Black.

I didn’t expect that dinner to be such an emotional experience, but with a performance of ‘Lean on Me’ by Canada’s R&B soul queen, there was not a dry eye in the house.

Another reason I love what I do. Finding myself in surprising and wonderful shared experiences.

My first opportunity to travel for this job was definitely a success. I loved the chance to work with people on my team that I don’t normally get to work directly with, and can’t wait to do it again!
