Development with LinkedIn Learning

Earlier this year, I started looking into options for professional development. Anything to do with graphic design - theory, practice, creative inspiration. For obvious reasons, online courses are a great option for people with limited transportation who work a 9-5 job, so I stuck to that.

What I didn’t expect was that the LinkedIn Learning platform. It offers so many types of courses, and some of them come with learning paths and certificates! No, this post isn’t sponsored by LinkedIn Learning. I’m just hoping to share some of the courses I took, and what I was able to gain from them.

Learn Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator

I’ve learned these core Adobe programs when I was in college, and I’ve used them on a daily basis throughout my career since then. But these are complex programs that constantly grow and change, and you can’t ever stop learning.

Having the chance to learn new ways of Thinking in Photoshop, or exposing myself to new ways to use InDesign, was incredibly useful.

I later took the Essential Skills in Adobe InDesign exam, and earned the Professional Certificate!

Advance Your Skills in Graphic Design

As I said earlier, I learned how to use graphic design software in my generalist college program, but we didn’t really dig into design theory. So this series of courses was super inspiring.

It gave me the chance to learn about aspects of design and how they work together to make an impact. Coming away from the courses, I found myself inspired to work. It gave me theory and got my creative juices flowing.

Total time: 14 hours, 9 courses

Skills: Graphic Design · Layout Design · Typography · Color Theory · Design Thinking · Content Creation

Applying Generative AI as a Creative Professional

AI is all over the place right now. Especially when it comes to creative content production. So as a digital content creator and graphic designer, I knew it was time to pick up on these skills and run with the future.

The series of courses gives a good introduction into generative AI platforms, how it can be used by creatives as a tool to get a project started, and the ethics behind using AI to create content.

Total time: 18 hours, 6 courses

Skills: Media Ethics · Adobe InDesign · Artificial Intelligence for Design · Adobe Photoshop · Generative AI Tools · Adobe Illustrator

I can’t wait to continue my education with these online courses, and am constantly looking for new ways to grow.

Have you ever taken an online course to develop your professional skills? How did you find the experience?
