CIFAR

I worked with CIFAR (the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research) from Spring 2018 to Fall 2019 as their Marketing & Design Specialist. Throughout my year and a half supporting their communications team, I helped to create a variety of branded event materials, fundraising materials, and web graphics. Below you can find my favourite projects.

Fundraising Brochure

I worked with the organization’s Advancement department to create a brochure with InDesign that highlighted CIFAR’s strengths with the hopes of raising funds. We wanted to show CIFAR’s innovation through the design, so I incorporated rectangle die cuts in line with the brand guidelines.

The brochure was a hit with the Advancement team, and was used as a marketing handout at fundraising events throughout 2018 and 2019 to inform our donors what donations we needed and why.

Massey Talk Campaign

I worked with CIFAR’s events team to create a visual campaign for their annually partnered talk with Massey College. The event to be held at Massey College would feature one of CIFAR’s researchers in their Gravity & Extreme Universe program, so created the graphics in InDesign to highlight the organization’s branded illustration for the program and bright red logo to appeal to our community.

With the ads posted to our social media accounts and printed in the Globe and Mail, the event was a success and sold over 100 tickets.

AI & Democracy

I worked with CIFAR’s events team and the AI communications specialist to create a promotional video for one of the organization’s AI & Society workshops. I travelled to Montreal to attend the workshop and filmed interviews with various people involved in the workshop (presenters, attendees, organizers) as well as some supporting images of the workshop taking place.

Once the event was over, I used Premiere Pro to edit together my own footage as well as some stock clips from Pond5 to tell a captivating story about the workshop.

President & CEO Portrait

Working with the Creative Director, I searched the office for a perfect place for the new portraits to be taken of President & CEO of CIFAR - Dr. Alan Bernstein. I practiced different lighting setups and different backdrops with various stand-ins to ensure my limited time with Dr. Bernstein would be productive.

We shot some different poses, and decided this one was the most on-brand: friendly and approachable, but also in a location that highlighted the work that went on at the organization.

I edited in Photoshop with the help of the Creative Director, and this is the final image!
